Keith Tyler-Smith, Director
After 17 years in TV production as a producer and director with TVNZ, Keith made the shift into tertiary education, by taking up the role as Programme Leader for TV Production at NZ Broadcasting School at Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology (CPIT). Seven years later the opportunity to lead a newly established eLearning and Web Support team came up, following a successful eLearning pilot initiative with a cross-discipline team, who worked together on a Graduate Diploma course in eCommerce. This role included staff training and development in the technical, design and pedagogic aspects of eLearning and the development of new eLearning resources, programmes and courses.
In 2004, Keith took up the role of eLearning Projects Manager for the Tertiary Accord of New Zealand (TANZ). In this role he was responsible for overseeing the development of more than 40 workplace-based online courses and programmes and has managed collaborative online developments with a wide range of organisations including the seven TANZ member institutions, the ASURE meat inspection SOE, Public Service Training Organisation (Learning State), Workbase Literacy Trust and Flexible Learning Network.
A major project he lead was a network of provision pilot, that linked teachers and learners across the six TANZ institutions using Moodle’s networking capability. This pilot was designed to show how the Moodle Networking technology (MNet) would enable the sharing of courses, students and teachers between six geographically distributed ITP institutions.
As part of his TANZ project leadership role he was asked in 2008 to help Otago Polytechnic establish a Work-Based Learning pilot for the Bachelor of Applied Management,
Keith and TANZ parted company at the end of 2010 and set up his eLearning development company Learning@Work Ltd. He continues to work with Otago Polytechnic on the WBL pilot. Keith has a Bachelor of Broadcasting Communications from CPIT and a Master of Education (Online Education) from the University of Southern Queensland.
